Hungary, Benedek will leave the national team

Tibor Benedek

Tibor Benedek said he’s going to leave the position of Hungary national team’s head coach. He will not renew his contract with the Hungarian Federation, that is going to expire on December 31st. “In recent weeks – Benedek stated – I’ve sized up the period we’ve just left behind us having held several discussions with MVLSZ (Hungarian Federation, edit.) President Denes Kemeny. I would like to thank him and the entire leadership of the waterpolo association for their work and trust in recent years. I also thank my coaching staff and the players for their work too. From 1st January I will not be carrying out the head coach’s tasks”.
Benedek has been leading Hungary since November 2012. He won the 2013 World Championships in Barcelona, the 2014 European Championships silver medal and 2016 European Championships bronze medal. He also won two World League silver medals, in 2013 and 2014. Hungary gained the 5th place at the last Olympics, missing the semifinals twice in a row.
