Spanish league 8th round: Barceloneta retains lead in Spanish league

The reigning champions have retained the lead in the domestic league in Spain in the 8th round, played on Saturday as then leaders Terrassa were held to a 9-9 draw by Sabadell while Barceloneta recorded a big 17-8 win over Catalunya at home. Despite that fact that the differences remain as small as possible the top position is being filled by the team that did so throughout the whole of last season en route to yet another championship. This time however the rivals seem to be closer behind with, next to Terrassa also Mediterrani and Real Canoe trailing 'just' three points. Madrid based Real Canoe had a hard time gaining another victory as Barcelona hung on right until the end, even led the score for most of the match, but eventually had to settle for a close 8-9 loss. Mediterrani enjoyed an easy afternoon beating AR Concepcion 2-12. Mataro Quadis added three points to their total beating Navarra 5-14 despite an early 3-1 deficit. From the second period onwards though the game turned around and led by French international Mehdi Marzouki who scored an incredible 7 goals, Mataro ran away to a 9-goal victory. CN Poble Nou continued their recent good run by this time topping Sant Andreu with striking ease, 5-11, to now all of a sudden take 7th place on the table.
